Goemon x Rin - 'Sweet Mornings'
Note: This is a fanfic!
Morning in the share house always began gently, especially when Goemon was in the kitchen.
The soft sounds came first. The kettle being filled. The quiet click of the switch. The familiar scent of coffee slowly waking the air. Goemon moved with ease, sleeves rolled, hair still a little tousled, completely at home among mugs and filters. Coffee was his thing. Everyone in the house knew it. No one questioned it.
Rin appeared without a sound, slipping into the kitchen like she belonged there, because she did. She stopped behind him and peeked over his shoulder, eyes following every movement he made. From there, the world felt smaller. Warmer.
He noticed her reflection in the kettle almost immediately.
“Good morning,” Goemon said softly. “Would you like some coffee?”
Rin smiled. He always asked, even though he already knew the answer. “Only if you’re making it.”
He let out a quiet chuckle. “Then you’ll have some.”
She stepped closer, resting her chin lightly against his back, hands loosely holding onto his sleeves. “It smells really good today.”
“It’s the same beans,” he said.
“Then it’s you.”
Goemon pretended not to hear that part, but the faint smile tugging at his lips gave him away. He poured the water slowly, carefully, like the process mattered. Rin watched from behind his broad shoulders, eyes soft, feeling oddly proud just watching him do something so simple and so him.
When he handed her the mug, he made sure it was the perfect temperature. Not too hot. Never too hot.
She cradled it in both hands and took a small sip. Her eyes lit up instantly. “Ah… it’s perfect.”
“I’m glad,” he said, relief and quiet pride in his voice.
Rin took another sip, then glanced up at him. “You know… later, could you make coffee jelly?”
He didn’t hesitate for even a second. “Of course. How many?”
Her smile widened. “Maybe two.”
“Three,” he corrected gently. “You always say two and then want more.”
She laughed softly. “You know me too well.”
He reached out and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. “I like knowing you.”
They leaned against the counter together, shoulders touching, the house still quiet and asleep around them. Rin shifted closer, tucking herself comfortably under his arm. He welcomed her without thinking, resting his hand against her shoulder like it belonged there.
“Thank you,” she murmured, lifting the mug slightly.
“For the coffee?” he asked.
“For mornings like this.”
Goemon looked down at her, eyes warm. “Anytime you want.”
They stayed there a little longer than they needed to, sharing warmth, coffee, and the quiet sweetness of starting another day side by side. And no matter how busy or noisy the house became later, these mornings always belonged just to them.
